BASPA Report-elective conferenceОn September 8, 2014 the regular Report – Elective Conference of the Black and Azov Seas Ports Association (BASPA) took place in Batumi. Batumi Sea Port for the third time (first in 2006) acted as a host to this prestigious event with the participation of delegations from ports and port administrations of Ukraine, Georgia, Bulgaria, Turkey and representatives of different companies.
The conference was opened by the Director of Batumi Sea Port Mr. Mirian Katamadze who thanked the participants for attending the Conference and underlined the essential role of Georgia and Batumi port in the overall system of transportation communications of the Black Sea region.
The complimentary address to the participants of the Conference has been made by the Honorary President of BASPA Mr. Jemal Inaishvili.
Mr.Yuri Kruk, Director of Illichevsk Sea Commercial Port was elected as the President of BASPA for further 2 years.
Mr. Mirian Katamadze, Director of Batumi Sea port and Mr. Angel Zaburtov, General Director of the Bulgarian State Enterprise "Port Infrastructure” were elected as vice –presidents of BASPA for further 2 years.
During the conference BASPA management had adopted the action plan for 2014-2015, discussed the competitiveness and future development of transportations between Europe and Asia, adopted measures for cooperation with international organizations involved in the formation and development of trans-black sea and intermodal transport network Sea Motorways, and encouraged BASPA administration to organize seminars, together with Odessa National Maritime University, on modern technologies in the dredging of water areas, cargo-handling operations and cost-effective methods of maintenance for cargo-handling equipment.
This conference is expected to serve as an impulse for further successful solution of problems facing the transport sector, and will give a new impetus to the development of the transport sphere in the Black Sea region.
