From 29 to 31 August 2012, the regular Report – Elective Conference of the Black and Azov Seas Ports Association (BASPA) took place in Batumi. Batumi Sea Port for the second time (first in 2006) acted as a host to this prestigious event with the participation of delegations from ports of Ukraine, Georgia, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Turkey, the private terminal operators of Ukraine and Georgia, Marine and Port Authorities of Georgia as well as Vice Mayor of Batumi Mr. Jemal Ananidze and Board member of Georgian Chamber of Commerce - Mr. Jemal Inaishvili.

Mr. Dian Dimov, executive director of the Port of Burgas, was elected as the President of BASPA. Former President of the Association, Mr. Rony Saab became the first vice-president; director general of the Port of Batumi Mr. Vyacheslav Khartyan and director of the Port of Odessa Mr. Yuri Vaskov were elected as vice-presidents of BASPA.

During the conference, BASPA leaders discussed the competitiveness and future development of transportations between Europe and Asia, adopted measures for cooperation with international organizations involved in the establishment and development of trans-black sea and intermodal transport route Black -Baltic Sea, encouraged the ports to develop cruise business in Black Sea region, and to strengthen cooperation with «Medcruise» association.

This conference is expected to serve as an impulse for further, successful solution of problems facing the transport sector, and will give a new impetus to the development of the transport sphere the Black Sea region.
